Sheriff Jerry Philley reminds our citizens to wear reflective clothing if exercising in the early morning or late afternoon.
The good news of returning to Standard Time is that we all receive an extra hour of sleep but the bad news is that it really puts a damper on fitness routines. After the time change it is nearly pitch black after work each day.
Some tips on avoiding an accident at these times and still getting your exercise time in is to:
· MOVE ON THE CORRECT SIDE OF TRAFFIC – For walking and running, stay on the left and not on the right and all the cars will be in sight. For biking, however, you should ride with the traffic on the right hand side of the road.
· MAKE YOURSELF SEEN – Even if you can see cars, they cannot always see you so help them by wearing reflective clothing. You can purchase a light to go on your head. It not only lights your path but will get you noticed also.
· LEAVE A NOTE – Before you leave the house to exercise, leave a note or message with someone telling them when you left, the route you were taking and the time you expect to be back. If you do trip or fall, someone will know where to look for you.
